21 Jul Dr. Thomas Walker, Board Chair…
Dear Chamber Members:
Many of you are ware that I will be leaving Wayne Community College on July 23rd. I have had the honor of being a member of the Chamber board during my tenure at the College and have been the Board Chair for the past several months. While I will not be able to complete my term as chair, I wanted to express my sincere appreciation to all the Chamber members and encourage you to continue the great work the Chamber is engaged in with the leadership of Kate Daniels and the Chamber staff.
Wayne County is a special place. I have had the blessing of living in several different parts of the country, and it did not take me long to fall in love with this place. Perhaps it is so much like my home (Lumberton, NC) in terms of an agricultural economy and the emphasis on faith, family, and work ethic. It should come as no surprise that Wayne County is as much home for me as any place I have ever lived.
As you all move into the future, I encourage you to not limit your vision for what our community can become. The opportunity to grow both economically and educationally are within your grasp; but it will not occur without the Chamber being a significant component of the future success. I thank Kevin Johnson for taking on the remainder of my term and then he will complete another year as Chair of the Chamber board.
As I move into the next professional phase of my life, I have told many that this is not the last you will see of me. Eastern North Carolina is my favorite place in the world and I will continue in my next role to advocate and push for the priorities that will help us grow. Most importantly, I will hang on to the very principles I gained growing up east of I-95; and I will be loyal to this community.
Cheers and I will see you soon.
Thomas A. Walker, Jr.
Chair, Board of Directors
